Hue and Cry as Products on Amazon Appear to Get Brand-jacked

Amazon sellers are facing a big mess, with many reporting that all generic products were brand-jacked. "On Amazon yesterday, sellers who had listed their products as generic were surprised to find their listings changed to say the manufacturer was DABLIZ GROUP INTERNATION TRADING LLC," a reader told EcommerceBytes. "Some sellers have had their listings fixed; others still have thousands of affected listings."

The seller pointed to threads on the Amazon discussion boards, such as this one started on April 26 by a seller who was unable to list generic items and asked, "has someone Brand registered the name "Generic"?"

A moderator joined the thread and confirmed the problem - "We have seen and are reviewing all of the ongoing "Generic/5461" forums threads and are in contact with partner teams to find the cause and solution for the issue. There are multiple threads devoted to the topic. To keep things organized, we're going to post our updates in this "Unable to list generic items" thread. We will have these updates ASAP."

This morning, another moderator posted in another thread - "Jumping in here to let you know we ARE working with several teams to address this for you all, but it is a huge undertaking. So, please know that we are reading every single post you share and are working as hard as possible. There is also info we cannot share with regard to the process of investigating what is happening and what the progress is. We'll keep you updated where we can throughout the day, but greatly do appreciate sharing with us the issues you're facing. YOU ALL are driving this activity to resolve. I'll update you as soon as I can. Thank you so much."

A seller replied, "It looks like all of mine have been changed back in the last 12 hours. So they seem to be aware of the problem and are working on it."

The moderator returned and advised sellers who were impacted to submit a support ticket (rather than a "report a violation") with the full list of ASINs that need updated.

To which a seller replied, "Wait, Amazon is fixing this manually one by one? Oof..."

The moderator returned to clarify that "Amazon is not fixing this manually one by one - we are simply trying to help where we can. Let us know if you've submitted a Seller Support Case and we're happy to help."

However, in a subsequent post, a seller said, "My account was also changed from Dabliz Group International to "Unknown" today." It isn't clear to EcommerceBytes if that means sellers will be forced to manually change those listings back to "generic."

This evening, sellers spotted some branded items that appeared were undergoing the same "brand-jacking" - a seller wrote: "Just came across a few legitimate Hasbro Transformers listings (B09XBTC89S, B09XS4K48L) showing Dabliz, so it's starting to leak further," and linking to this product for a Transformers toy.

Note that it isn't clear if the brand whose name appears on the generic listings did anything wrong or if they were a victim of a glitch or other issue.

Update 4/28/2022: Amazon moderators have been actively helping sellers who have filed support tickets and today at 1:39 pm one posted the following message: "Hello Sellers, We are very aware of this problem and we are actively working to resolve it. We will update you with more information as soon as possible."

Wow, it seems as if eBay is  LEAKING ONTO AMAZON.  Did Amazon recently hire some folks from eBay?

At least Amazon acknowledges the problem and provides updates.  If only some of Amazon's structure could leak back onto eBay!
