Amazon Two-Step Verification Drives Seller Crazy

By: Reader

Dear Ina,
Is anyone else using Amazon sick and tired of it's 2-step verification? It's cumbersome and requires that I get my phone, log into the phone, wait for a code, before I can access Amazon for anything including as a buyer.

Other sites don't require the 2-step verification, and I wonder why Amazon has started this nonsense. My bank uses a "token" for security ID and you would think that Amazon would have some easier process than the 2-step verification.
L.

Note from the Editor: Amazon has instructions on how to turn on and off two-step verification, let us know if it works for you. (Comments about the tradeoffs of using two-step verification on Amazon and elsewhere are welcome.)

I buy lots of merchandise on Amazon and have never had to deal with a two-step verification. There are several sites where I do have the two-step verification, such as with Stripe which handles my transactions on eCrater. I honestly don't find it annoying, but I have my phone on almost the entire day playing Pokemon GO, so checking for a code is not a big deal. Where money is involved, it's nice to have that extra layer of protection.

I used to hate getting carded at bars until realizing it’s when they stop wanting to is when you need to worry…

@Mindelec - you cannot turn it off.  That was my issue with AMZ.  This is NOT an option.
But it doesn't give you an alternative method to authenticate.  Other sites like Merc, Posh, EB, only require a password.  If they are suspicious, they require you  ID pictures and/or  click "I am not a robot".

@Chicago48 I've never had two-step verification on my account and I use it almost every day. Here are the instructions for turning it off from the Amazon website, if they work:
To disable Two-Step Verification:
In Your Account, select Login & security.
Select Edit beside Two-Step Verification (2SV) Settings.
Select Disable beside Two-Step Verification.
Enter the code sent to your phone number, or generated through the authenticator app.
Select Verify code.

@Eliot -- I DID turn it off, but AMZ has made it mandatory, and I keep having to 2-step to access AMZ.  Maybe it's my browser on the desktop, I don't know.  But it's a merry-go-round.  I turn it off, AMZ turns it on.
I don't know why they can't do like other sites like banks and use a token, or something like Paypal "I am not a robot".

Google this:  amazon's 2-step verification is annoying.  The complaints go back 5 years.

Amazon needs to do that ,so they can now legally track you through you’re phone.

BTW, off topic, has anyone found a good Amazon seller barcode scanner besides the AMZ seller scanner?  Since I'm having problems with 2-step verification, I don't want to use the AMZ seller scanner anymore.

I was able to turn it off, however, the next time you sign on Amazon requires you to establish once again the two-step verification. We are a small business, and the code goes to the boss's cell phone, it seems never in the office when we need to get the code. Frustrating!

@Chicago48

yeah i just found that out, first thing it did was make me turn it back on.  perhaps this is only true to get into a selling account?
