Amazon Credits Seller $1 for Its Costly Mistake

By: Ina Steiner

What should a marketplace do when it makes a mistake that proves costly to a seller in terms of both lost sales and actual expense?

An Amazon seller who found himself on the receiving end of such a mistake found out.

Ed Rosenberg, founder of the Amazon Sellers Group (ASGTG.com), published the following letter a member of his group received from Amazon FBA Seller Support:

Greetings from FBA,
You are receiving this email because some or all of your inventory was incorrectly marked as expired and returned to you sometime in the last 5 months. The issue was caused by a system error that we have since resolved.

We apologize for the error and have applied a credit of $1.00 to your Seller account due to removal fees you incurred.

We appreciate your understanding and thank you for selling on Amazon.
Thank you,
Amazon

We're curious if other sellers have run into similar situations, or if it's an anomaly - both in terms of the nature of the mistake Amazon made, and the reparation amount it offered the seller.

Well if it had been Ebay you would have gotten nothing nada, not even a notice that something was wrong.

I'm currently fighting AZ with 2 ASIN's.

One marked incorrectly as expired.  They checked and admitted their mistake.  Now say it can take up to 30 days to get it Active again.  If it takes 30 days, it WILL be expired.

2nd one was 3 units that they "stuck" in FC transfer, or somewhere else from April 18 til May 25, not showing them available for sale, until they did expire.  I managed to get them to reimburse for 2 of the units, but am still wrangling Support to get the 3rd reimbursed.  When they reimbursed the other two, this one mysteriously went back into FC Transfer and I had to wait until it arrived at it's destination.  Unfortunately, now past the 5-day window for support cases staying active, I'm back at the beginning of the Support case chain with this.  You know, the one where all you get is a boilerplate canned response that has NOTHING to do with the problem, and you have to go back at them again and again and again.  Just like beating your head against the wall repeatedly...and with the same effect.

LOL.  The joys of Amazon!  Glad I don't sell there.  Don't think I ever will.  Can't buy some things either.  Shipping is restricted by country / location apparently.

It seems the last couple of years Amazon is doing more and more murky, stupid things. Like they can do whatever they want with impunity. Personally I am getting tired of it. After having well over 400 items deleted due to 'potential high price error, that was not a high price error at all. If there was any error, it was due to low price errors. I have even had items that I was the ONLY seller with the item, deleted due to this policy. How can something be too high priced if there is nothing to compare it with. Are they just sending the buyer to eBay or perhaps eCRATER where items that are deleted on Amazon, I am selling in my eCRATER store. If Amazon doesn't want the fees I'm paying, I would much rather pay the miniscule costs to eCRATER, compared to the several $100s that I pay Amazon each month.

It isn't just things that I keep seeing with my account, but what I hear from other sellers that are Amazon selling experts so to speak. Some stuff is just odd that is going on. I do know that they have the FBA sellers in a frenzy due to some limit they are placing on listing/storage amounts going into Christmas.

Just one of the reasons why I refuse to sell there. Their terms, or at least the bulk of them, should be deemed illegal...not to mention their actions (or lack thereof).

@moonwishes -

I've also had more problems with High Price Errors lately.  Thank goodness not to the degree you've had, but it's still irritating.

I'm wondering if they've expanded their bots to look for low prices in more places than they were before, which triggers more of those "errors".

I too have one item that is stuck with High Price Error, and I'm the one and only Seller on AZ, and no one else has had it for about 3-4 months now.  But can't get it to unstick from the error, even when I lower the sale price below the AZ fees (i.e. to LOSE money).

And, of course, AZ Support is exponentially worse than eBay's...

I am so glad that I dropped ebay and Amazon.  The stress was getting to be to much - not worth it anymore.
