Amazon Sellers Reach Melting Point with New Attribute

Amazon announced a new policy requiring sellers to provide information about the melting temperature of heat-sensitive goods. But there's some confusion about whether all sellers will be required to indicate whether their items are heat sensitive or not.

Amazon posted the following announcement on Tuesday afternoon:

Melting temperature attribute will soon be a required step for ASINs

To help improve the customer experience, we've added a melting temperature attribute for ASINs. Starting April 22, 2021, this attribute will be a required step when you fill out information for the following:

- New ASINs
- All existing ASINs when you update any attribute on a product information page

For meltable items, such as chocolate, lip balms, and wax-based products, select Yes for is heat sensitive and provide information about the product’s melting temperature.

Although melting temperature is currently an optional attribute, we recommend that you update your affected ASINs now so that they are current as of April 22. If you offer temperature-sensitive ASINs that Amazon also offers, the product attributes may have been updated already.

We appreciate your cooperation as we continually strive to improve the customer experience.

A seller responded, "Maybe a dumb question but if we don't sell temperature-sensitive products do we still need to go in and select "No" for "Is Heat Sensitive"?"

"The LAST thing we all need is to have to manually edit every one of our listings just to point-out that they are NOT "Temperature Controlled,"" said another.

A seller who said they worried that any edit to any ASIN would require the new attribute to be filled in, even for non-meltable products, called for Amazon moderators to respond. "I hope one of the Mods steps in and calms the seas over this impending storm of listing removals again."

Some sellers were also leery of the new requirement because of the way Amazon handled its pesticides policy crackdown - see, "Amazon Confirms Pesticide Crackdown Was Overreaching" from April 15, 2019. 

"How long before every single book I own is a meltable high-priced pesticide," a seller asked rhetorically.

It's those pesky Indian programmers again.  They sit around in those meetings and dream up nonsense for the sellers.  To make it harder for the sellers.  I wonder if the Chinese sellers have to do the same things that Americans have to do?  Do you honestly think that Chinese sellers are going to answer an item specific asking the temperature of this goods?  
I'm really surprised that FBA sellers haven't pulled their inventory from the warehouses and setup elsewhere.  And I predict that some smart cookie entrepreneur will figure out how to turn these empty city buildings into competitive warehouses and lure sellers.

You know that the GENESIS of this ODD SOUNDING New Change has some Real World need.
Example.... what if it were caused by OTC drugs like Aspirin or AlkaSeltzer that doesn't MELT at less than hundredS of degrees F, but DOES TURN to DREK if above 140 F or even LOWER in the presence of high humidity.

Yes, this doesn't let Amazon off the HOOK for making BUSY WORK for THOUSANDS of their Client /  Sellers.

So tired of Amazon and their ideas of what they think that the customer wants. Who dreams up these ideas and nonsense? Thankfully, most of my sales are now away from them.

I have a sinking feeling that this kind of silliness is going to get worse.
