A shopper was left fuming after the Amazon app suggested she leave a 25% tip when buying a £6.31 ($8) item. In a post on Reddit, a user called Novagurl shared her recent experience while shopping on Amazon. Under the heading 'No. I would not like to tip on Amazon' she fumed with just a handful of words and one photo.

She wrote: "Just wanted to buy a pet memorial for a friend whose dog passed. Has anyone else been asked to tip on an Amazon purchase? Unbelievable." The image showed a request for a tip, with options of 'no tip', '$1', or $2'. She chose the first option.

The post sparked hundreds of responses, with some questioning if it was Amazon's doing. One advised: "This is just a seller adding an option and abusing the system a bit. Report them and hopefully, Amazon delists it." Another person agreed, saying: "Agreed. This is clearly an Amazon Marketplace merchant (i.e. a third party that is selling on the Amazon platform), not Amazon themselves. It's still not great, but it's not like the money goes to Amazon, it's going to a separate company."

However, some were keen to defend the particular seller over the item being potentially custom-made. One explained: So has everyone else not noticed that this is clearly a custom item? Like don't get me wrong I'm not happy with how out of control tip culture has become, but this isn't someone asking for a tip because they grabbed a box of Wheaties for you, it's someone that's making whatever item to your exact specifications."

But another disagreed, calling it "a cheap mass produced not stained glass but plastic and acrylic." They added: "The only addition was stamping a dog's name. I'm not paying online for the product, shipping, and now a tip. Just raise the price: the person stamping surely isn't getting that extra $2."
